Lavender Field

The sun was shining on his face as he was laying in the field full of blue winter flowers.
Half dead half alive with no recollection of how he got here.
In the distance he spotted a horse carriage with two humans sitting in the middle of it, two donkeys pulling the carriage. With unexplainable dread, he lay on the field with a fading hope that they won't sniff him out laying there.

An arrow landed next to him, barely missing his ear.
He looked around and in the distance saw a lonely oak tree. And then he flew like a dragonfly above the blue flower field with arrows failing to reach him.
The oak was a few feet away when the arrows caught him and sent him crashing down.
The oak tree faded into nothingness. The blue field started to glow, the ground opened up and our hero fell into a deep, never-ending tunnel.

The birds sang their usual tunes, the sun was shining and sending rays of warmth down as usual and our hero(he didn't know that he was a hero yet) was lying in the bed next to the open window.
"What is this strange dream I have every night"- he asked himself.
"Why can’t I make it to that tree as I am in control of my dream and usually am not afraid of my dream characters as they are my mind's creation?"

The dream and thoughts faded away he jumped out of the bed made his usual breakfast, had a shower, dressed and rode his bike to his workshop.
He is a known children's author and life could not be better but something wasn't right, something was missing.
The world around him was turning into something horrible, daily exploding bombs across Europe, shootings, stubbings of innocent.
Soldiers in train stations and airports.
