It’s not that simple. The old generation came out from the most devastating war. They were a part of rebuilding their lives and they watched how their lives improved (compare to the war). The Soviet system gave them most of what they needed, home to live, job to go to, food on the table. As long as one agreed with the system the life was ok for them. Then the wild capitalism came and everything crashed in front of their eyes almost literally. The communists became business people, gangsters running the streets, human decency was forgotten. Greed showed its teeth. I saw how families went against each other because they could become richer. It was not a pretty sight. I can’t blame them for that. For my generation was easier, we hated the communist system, we saw the lies of “better tomorrow”.
